Buckland Monachoroum

The name Buckland is derived from ‘Book Land’ and Monachorum means ‘Of the Monks’, in other words ’Land held by charter from the Monks’. Buckland Abbey, one mile to the south of the village, was founded by Cistercian Monks in 1278.
